Hi, I have a 1999 Great Dane Trailer. Replacing the wheel hub seal the one that I took off is a 307-07-43 Stemco, is this a 2 piece seal?Is that backing plate part of the seal? Does that have to come off to put the new seal on? The new seal is a Meritor MER0143.
What is the best way to unstick the ABS sensor, it seems like it is rusted in there. So I don't ruin it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

YES, The wear ring on the spindle is part of the old seal and needs to come off. If the sensor is stuck, get a new one and they come with a new tension spring. Drive out the old one that's stuck in and just replace it. They are not that pricey. It will need to be adjusted after installing the hub. Just push the sensor out to contact the tone ring after the hub is installed.

That sensor is seized because nobody uses anti-seize when they put stuff together. So, I'll go a couple of steps further and tell you once you remove that sensor, clean out the bore so you don't have to force a brand new sensor in there and possibly wreck it. Most sensors kits comes with a little tube of assembly grease to coat the sensor with to prevent it from getting stuck. Make sure you use it or coat it with anti-seize. Just install it all the way. It will set it's spacing to the tone wheel on the hub automatically when you reinstall the hub.

After removing old wear ring. Make sure to clean spindle with emory cloth. It will probably have rust or corrosion under it.
Otherwise New 1 piece seal will fail prematurely.Cindy Thanks this. -

When installing new seal, make sure you adjust bearings properly. TMC RP 618 is a great guide to follow. Proper end play is key to seal life and abs sensor readings.
