PB Blaster or WD 40 if they’re seized up. I use oil - any oil, on binders.

I throw straps the same - and roll them ‘hook in’ like yours - however -

If you throw them so the roll naturally unrolls as it travels over the load - it helps out on tall loads.

Ive used a spray bottle of diesel to lubricate ratchet binders before... But I tend to prefer snap binders, which require less maintenance and less likely to get froze up from rust.

Liquid wrench works really good to break them open if they are gunked and closed tight.... Ive been trying to find the perfect concoction to keep them lubed without gunking... grease is a hard no. Some guys had good luck with fluid film.. Ive never tried that... but im using gear oil currently and having really good results..

Diesel is also good for cleaning the gunk and rust off , being a solvent, cleans all the crap off

Hook them on your rub rail - squirt ‘whatever’ in the threads, from the top - leave them a while - let gravity run it down the threads.

Turn the other way and repeat.

You wind it the wrong way.
Your way ,you have to throw the strap over the load.
Wind it the other way and you only need to throw it over the first corner off the load,it will unroll itself to the other side.

Are they more expensive ? Its easy enough to switch the mechanism around.
