I have googled and read the first 10 pages in this forum and can't find good ways to secure the loose end of a ratchet strap. I rode along with another driver and he just rolled them up and zip tied them. I used to work for a moving company and there was a good way to tie them but for the life of me I can't remember. How do you secure them?

I fold mine up & use a bungy strap to attach them tight to the ratchet.
soisauz and cabwrecker Thank this. -
Thats what I'm thinkin. Bungys can be reused.

Some straps have a gap between the stitching and the loop for the bottom of the ratchet-food end over end about 12" long, ratchet Til the ratchet holds, slip now folded excess halfthru the gap, ratchet till taut. Excess is held in place, load is secure. Some you can fold end over end and run thru the back of the ratchet and down so that the down stroke engaged ratchet holds it in place.

If you are talking about securing the end while using the strap to secure the load, there are a couple of ways to do it. I usually pull the end through the winch and by the time I get the winch tight, the entire strap is wound around the winch. I have also tightened the strap up to a point and then folded the strap and put it on the inside of the strap and then finished tightening the winch. Either way works well.

I misread your original post. With a ratchet strap, I will usually fold the strap, starting at the end and work my way back to the ratchet. I will then put the excess strap through the handle and use a bungee to secure the strap. I have also put the folded over portion underneath the strap, tightened it down and then used a bungee on both ends to secure the strap. Securing it to the ratchet usually works best for me.
Chewy352 and freightliner438 Thank this. -
i fold it up. and stuff in between the rail and strap. tighten town. haven't lost one yet, but bungee strap to rail prolly good idea.
the 2 inchers will actually stuff under the hook that's hooked to the rail. and tighten down. -
I always fold the tail up in about a 14 inch loop then run it thru the handle of the winch halfway then pull the top of the loop thru the bottom of the loop creating a half hitch around the handle then just stuff it thru the rail behind the hook.

Inside a van or box truck I'd just tie the loose end up & out of the way with a slip knot: http://www.animatedknots.com/slip/ . I wouldn't trust it on an exposed flatbed though.
