My husband tells me that when the roads are wet and his truck is spraying water that his side mirrors get covered and he can't see out of them. Anyone have that problem and if so How did you fix the problem?
How to stop water from getting on side mirrors?

i usually put rain-x on the mirrors and side windows. helps quite a bit.
bullhaulerswife and skellr Thank this. -
There are commercially made accessories specifically for that. I don't remember what they are called, but it's basically a strip of rigid plastic with two-sided tape. It can be cut down to fit the individual mirror.
But I don't use those. I turn on the mirror heat. That generally will dry the mist that is the biggest problem vis-a-vis mirror visibility.otherhalftw Thanks this. -
He should park,
and wait for dry weather.
Call dispatch, they will authorize hazardous weather pay, until it clears up.

Take the mirrors off and store them inside the garage during the rainy season.kajidono Thanks this.

f he has convex mirrors where the top is higher than the bottom of the main mirror, get a longer bracket as the wind hits the convex and gets diverted upwards into the main mirror.

Go to any place that sells rain-x windshield washer fluid and purchase a gallon, purchase a empty sprayer and fill it up with rain-x. Use it to clean the mirrors and the windows, works just as good as the little bottles of rain-x and half the price.

Yeah, this seems to be a problem on most mirrors, even on the aero ones, not just the classics. I only use mirror heat in winter or when I know I'll have to do a reverse manoeuver in a few minutes to get better visibility. Otherwise, as others said, I also use Rain-X and it does help. When the mirrors dry on their own after a while they are spotty but not a whole lot.
What pisses me off the most though is when you have to use the washer fluid, the mist just seems to find its way onto the mirrors like a magnet and leaves them so spotty you can barely see out of them! -
If you are running the great white snow lanes you could try and use paste wax on mirrors also, I like Turtle wax. Make sure your mirrors are clean and dry and just put a little on the mirror glass with a clean cloth, baby diapers are great for polishing anything waxed.
If you get dirt or salt film on any glass surface make sure you rinse the glass off with some clean water first to keep the scratches down, another clean spray bottle filed with just plain tap water will do.Injun Thanks this. -
I've seen them on trucks. Splash guards that bolt on the side pillar.. on my volvo, water seems to accumulate right in the line of view on the windows.
