I just started working for coke and yesterday was my first day driving and I had no idea they drove 7 speeds I thought all thought all their trucks would've been 10 speeds or autos....I noticed what I learned in school that 2+5=7 3+5=8 doesn't work on this truck I also noticed when I upshift it have to be around 1800rpms but downshifting I am completely lost I'm just really getting lucky I.e. Red lights, stop signs, and the stores I had to deliver to that's when I slow all the way down and throw it in second

Is it a five and two? A five speed transmission coupled to a two speed rear end?
One I drove way back, you shifted the first five gears, flipped up the two speed rear and went back into fourth on the transmission (6th), then shifted up to five again (7th).

I think that is either a straight 7 or a two speed rear. That rear will have to be flipped twice on every shift.

It would be much easier to simply examine the shift plate inside your cab mounted somewhere in view and it will tell you what the pattern is.

When she starts bucking if the RPMs are too low then you found the torque RPM number.

They claim it's a straight 7, no splitter. This person is doing what most people who have trouble downshifting do, they are over revving the motor, and missing the "spot" for the next gear.

Well, that can be solved easily with the engine manual that shows the torque and hp chart with the exact RPM's for both low and high.

My spouse was a overrevver with that 13 we had in the T2000, she would grind the hell out of it while the radio lit up with posion. HEY!! 45 mph, kick it up, it's 70 out here... Sometimes Ive eased out of sleep, notched her into gear and away she went.

She turned into a torque monster once she found that RPM at which the truck will take any gear. What a ride... HAW...

Truck manufacturers do in fact manufacturer a 7 speed tranny (or the transmission manufacturer does) just for some city trucks because no need to have 10 speeds to run around city limits making deliveries where you might only get up to 20 mph between stops. Also the engine is a small 275-300 HP. Just shift it one gear at a time, probably don't even need to get to 6th or 7th, right ?
