Hey we’re new team drivers. We’ve been trying to math out the best way to run off recaps (our company wants us to keep running and not reset) any advice from experienced team drivers on how we should run to make the most of our loads?

Solo drivers running recaps try to keep their daily On-Duty & Driving time to 8.75 hours per day. If you do that, you always have 8.75 hours to work/drive the next day. Any day you go slightly over 8.75 hours (work/drive) means a future day with less than 8.75 hours available. Current and former team drivers will give you their procedure, shortly.

yeah pretty much what was said above. Your going to have 17.5 hours of combined hours a day. That leaves 6.5 of down time. You want to try to balance it out. Remember you'll have down time at shippers/receivers. So if you know you are going somewhere that takes a long time to load/unload. You can run harder on days before after. Using that pickup/delivery for both of you to get some down time.

Pretty rare to do that 8.75 thing. Most just run what they can and then hope for a few slower days a week to keep hours from running too low.
I despise running recaps , just adds more stress to the job.
Run hard then take a day off -
Advice on running recaps: do the best you can. You can only work with what is available. The aforementioned 8.75 idea is not a bad one, but not always practical. I'd say look your load assignment, see when you need to get it there, and proportion the miles out to where you can make delivery on time. People think you have to drive 11 hrs daily to make delivery on time. Not true.

I doubt I have done more than a dozen in the 10 years I have been out here.
To me, running as hard as you can and then having to sit for 34-48 hours is way more stressful.
I would much rather have a nice and easy day with time at the end to cook a good meal and watch a few shows, each and every day until my next home time.
And I'm sure I could make a little more money by running hard and taking 34's, but not that much more.
The relaxed pace of recap hours is much better for the (my) mind and soul.Qbf594, theSoz, slow.rider and 2 others Thank this. -
