Title says it all. I'm looking for advice/suggestions on how to properly float gears up and down. I was taught to hold RPM's when going into neutral, then release the throttle (do NOT come off the pedal) when going up to next gear but still suffer from the occasional grinding; moreover I never learned how to float down as I have just finished learning how to DC down. Any help is appreciated.

Why are you at all worried about this..? You JUST learned the basics of double clutching. Get used to staying on the road and getting comfortable in the truck. No instructors or companies are going to be impressed that you're floating gears. Definitely don't pull that at your first job interview road test.

    Downshifting
I tap and throw. Tap enough throttle to bring RPM's up and when moving stick should fall right in place.

Upshifting is opposite let off and move to next gear, timing how fast rpms drop and gear should fall into place.

Takes practice, and figuring out how each engine and transmission react.

You should worry more about whats around you rather then learning how to float.Learn how to shift and shift well before floating then floating gears will be easy as pie.You have aways to go before you can run with the big boys so why is floating gears such a concern?

Imagine the ball on the shift lever is an egg. Don't force the shift just gently slide it into the next gear.

Just take it steady and keep the engine brake off. If your engine brake is on apply enough pressure to the clutch to disengage it.

Usually its road speed mixed with RPM's. Dont jam the stick into gear just push. If you can't get it out than try burping the throttle and pulling it out as you leave off.

^guys talkin bout lookin around haha.

He's in training... He should be more concerned with not taking out a telephone pole on a turn than floating, lol. If you can't Double clutch without grinding, you're going to DESTROY a transmission trying to float...

He did not ask for advice on driving a truck or training. He asked how to float gears.
