I'm going to be an owner operator soon and I just want to ask what did you do to decide your business name?I do not want to use my name but I will be a sole proprietor but I do want to use a DBA account.
How did you decide your business name?

So ... You want to use a name to register doing business as.... Make something up that is easy to remember, it doesn't have to be a name but initials like abc trucking.

    Wild Murphy Thanks this.

The best one I've seen is nbs trucking. The logo was a bull inside a red circle with a slash through it, just like the no smoking sighs. Maybe not the most professional company logo, but definitely funny, and memorable. And considering that was twenty years ago, and I can still picture it, I'd say it was very effevtive.

Whatever you pick get it registered as an llc. DBA's generally aren't filed with the patent office which means anyone else who likes the name could theoretically register it then sue you for copyright infringement. Filing an LLC is less than $500 in most if not all states.

Neither have I. They were probably another casualty of the fuel surge in the early 2000's. A LOT of companies folded from 98 to 02/03

A company name and logo had nothing to do with copyright infringement, it's a trademark. And doesn't matter if you are an llc, c corp, s corp, or sole proprietor. It won't protect your name and logo. That's a separate type of registration, independent of how your business is organized.

marineman227 and Wild Murphy Thank this.
