did some googling and couldn't find a clear answer so going to check here.
If someone were to purchase a truck but doesn't have their own authority is it possible to get transport plates to move only the truck to the parking location of choice.
Obviously some form of insurance would be needed.
If anyone has experience with purchasing used trucks and moving them around would be helpful
As always thanks for the input guys and gals

Authority is not required for you to move your own truck. Authority is about moving other people's goods.
You would have to check with your insurance company. Sometimes if you have insurance on another vehicle they will cover you for something like that just for the move home but you have to check with them.
I'm sure others can give you better answers about that type of thing. If you buy from a dealer they can get you a temporary tag or you have to check with your state or DMV or notary.Rideandrepair, Eddiec and GettingRolling Thank this. -

Depends on the state. Texas you can just get a temp plate that’s good for 24-72 hours. Also where you buy a truck from might set this up for you. Alabama for example you can give an MC number upon purchase and they give you a 72 hour state exit permit.
From my understanding though you do need insurance from all the times I bought a truck and moved it across state lines.Rideandrepair and GettingRolling Thank this. -
Missouri it will cost $20.
Get a 72 hour trip for $10
And a 72 Fuel permit for IFTA for $10.
Covers tags and IFTA and you’ll be legal in the whole state for 3 days, keep receipt, write it off

Every state issues some sort of temp.
Due to the number of carriers that supply plates, many states issue a 'hunters permit' allowing transport for 15 or 30 days while you 'hunt' for a new carrier. these permits are for empty transport only and do not list the states like a real IRP registration.
Other states [not NJ and probably not NY] issue temps with the states listed that allow one to move freight.
NY also had the 3rd tier Highway Use Tax [HUT] and has a good online system to obtain one. After the court battles over the HUT, NY still issues the sticker but the amount is really cheap. You can get a 15 day temp that turns permanent, NY will mail you the HUT sticker. It is the best deal to get a HUT.
You still have to file with NY. The MOST affordable way to file is using the 'unladen weight' method. You file the HUT quarterly [just like IFTA] and pay the tax for all non-thruway miles
With a temp you might not need the HUT permit but is ti so cheap now and the 15 day temp [opposed to the 3 day one] starts your account and saves aggravation later.
The NY hut stickler goes on the front of the tractor so troopers at the tool booth can spot the trucks without one.Rideandrepair and GettingRolling Thank this. -
I'm just hoping it will cost me less than 1k and take less than 2 weeks to make a 2 hour drive between parking spots haha
