Picking up a emergency relief load ( “Modified HOS”) tonight.

Anyone know the proper way to log it?
Do I use off duty PC with a note “HOS exempt load”?

    Not really looking for guesses.

    You do not PC.

You are exempt. As in throw the logs away, run straight through.

Log it but mark the entire page exempt and cite the gospel regulation in force that day and document it copies of exemption etc. The actual logging does not matter, meaning exempt null, void, forgetaboutit, no good etc. But you can if you want to. For yourself...

We no longer run with paper logs. Need to know how to do it with the ELOG.

The link I provided show that you are not required to log at all. Electronic or paper. Its exempt.

Contact your company Logging People and ask them how to write Exempt into your ELD.

Its a simple word and the regs specifically do not require any logging at all. So Roll on.

General Emergency FAQs | FMCSA Number 14 answers your question. I would keep a copy of the paperwork showing you were exempt for minimum of 6 months.

I heard PC is the best way if you want to save your 70 hours also. If you drive as normal log yes you can run 18 hours if you want. Once empty you need to take 10 hours off then your back to regular logs. Since you logged it as driving time that 18 hours is used. You can't get that back from your 70. Because your free from HOS you could unplug your ELD with that load and still be legal. So that why I heard use PC. Your legal anyway you drive it. And when you go back to legal HOS you will have all working time left for the week. Just write on log book doing emergency load HOS exempt and roll under PC. If you don't care about saving your 70 hours then log it as normal run 18 hours if want. I heard this is on the FMCSA wed site

Running PC exposes you to a potential violation, it's the officer's discretion remember.

I would run Off Duty and generate the Unidentified Driver events. Company then keeps those events unassigned with the reason of being an HOS Exempt movement due to the emergency. I definitely would suggest the driver has accompanying paperwork in the truck at all times.
