Ever notice how many truck drivers and I use that term with reservation can not keep their truck in 1 lane at a time. They weave back and forth or cut the corners and general just herd a truck rather than maneuver it. No concept of it's size. Have any tips vets on guiding the vehicle down the boulevard in a straight line of travel?![]()

....doesn't always work. FWIW, the mirror on my Mack hasn't lost yet.
Seriously, if you're on a narrow road and you meet another truck, you've GOT to know where your truck is in the lane and move to the right edge of the road. If you can't do that, stay on the big road.southtx Thanks this. -
Like the Smith System says, "aim high in steering".
Pick an imaginary point in the center of the lane, well ahead of you, and aim for it. Keeps you centered better than aiming for a spot close to the front of your truck.
If you're talking about these guys who drift over while passing, they need to not fixate on their side mirror. Quick mirror checks are ok, but you need to keep looking ahead. You will go where your head is turned, so if you stare into that mirror you will tend to drift that way.Lazydog Thanks this. -
Seems the same ones that can't keep it one lane are the ones that don't see things happening up ahead until they are almost on top of them.

Back when I learned to drive, just as the model T was being phased out, I remember being concerned about how to keep the truck centered in my lane. I ask the veteran who was with me how to do this. He told me to check both mirrors and when the truck was in the center of the lane, note where the center stripe passed through the gauges in the dash.
I found this works. It is different in another truck but I used this until the position of the truck and trailer become second nature. It is a great tool for a new driver who is having a hard time keeping up with everything because it allows you to know where your trailer is when you are too busy to be looking around.Hitman, blktop-bucanear and CadetTrucker Thank this. -

I just turn on the autopilot and it seems to keep me in the lane well.
