Ok, I am getting bored with the everyday trucking rut. I would like to learn something new. I was thinking about trying to get in to oversize or some specialized hauling but I don't know where to start. Any of you have any ideas of a good place to look or start researching? I've also been considering tankers too.

you'll have to get into flatbed first, then work for the companies that do that kind of loads. Note, there is a difference between oversize and heavy haul. It takes a long time to get into the big multi axle heavy haul but you can get into the oversize loads with some good flatbed experience.

Miller Transfer & Rigging is one place. They was looking for drivers around your area and I think they have a terminal in Indy.

I have some flatbed experience but it was several years ago. Normally how much flatbed experience will most want before you can get in to that sort of thing with just normal oversize loads?

    Thanks. I'll check them out.

ATS has a set way to become a heavy hualer. Just don't know what it is. Something like a year or 2 of flatbed, then step deck or rgn for a while, then OD loads for a period.... not sure but it's in their recruitment info. For what it's worth, ATS/Maverick/TMC are ruining the 5 axle rgn/double drop market just like every market they get in to. They've got the rates beaten down to 2 bucks a mile or less almost everywhere.

Go out and talk with the compaies. Tell them what you want to do and you'll do whatever it takes to be a good specialized driver. Most will work with you. They may sent you to another company to learn but that's the way to their job. I've done it and liked it. It's very challenging and rewarding.

I like you're thinking! How's the trucking in Thailand? I lived in Costa Rica for 7 years. I'd hate to be in trucking anywhere in central America... :biggrin_25521:
