I had an accident almost 3 yrs ago. Many companies I've talked to want to see the accident report.
I have tried getting it myself and I every highway patrol office I call says I need to talk to another one. I even called my insurance company they had at the time and they didn't have access to it.

What he said. Each state has the DMV department online. Here in NYS you can go to the DMV website and order a copy of the accident report. Police here are required to complete one if there is damage of more than $1,000.00 to one vehicle. If the state that you are in requires police to file an accident report and one was done than DMV is the place to get it. Google the state DMV office and if one was filed you should be able to get it for a fee. Locally police here charge $2.00. Online I think there is a search fee and then a fee for the report.

Anyone have any idea what it means if on my driving report, I see an accident but when I look up the accident on the DMV's site, there is no report?

On my driving report, I have no points for the accident. I was not issued a speeding ticket.

Explain that. If they still insist then run. Or smile and wave at the rear facing camera when you finally get the job.

I guess I will figure this all out tomorrow when I actually call the dmv.

One person said I shouldn't mention the accident at all... I'm not trying to be dishonest or get let go halfway through the process and get kicked

Don't slit your own throat if it says accidents in past 3 years and its over 3 years.
    Don't list it.

I would not hire you for not being able to follow directions!

I agree, following directions is very important, lol so is reading comprehension.
"I had an accident almost 3 yrs ago". ie-it hasn't been 3 years yet.

Ok I would have to know more about the accident to give you any more information and I do not want you to disclose that here. If there were no injuries and there was not a lot of damage police departments here in NY do not have to do an accident report, but if you claim it on your insurance it will show up as an accident on your DMV record. The only thing that we would have here in NY would be the incident report as an accident report would not have been done. It is considered an incident but broader terms still an accident. In order to get a report like that you would have to go to the department that handled it in the first place and try to get an incident report from that department. If it was a state agency it is harder to get the report from them than a smaller agency. It may take a while and require a FOIL request, but you should still be able to get it. Start at the source, where the accident happened and the agency or substation that handled it.

I had to help a buddy get an accident report (posted this on another thread...) here in Ohio..its all digital and he doesn't have a PC atm. So, we went to OSHP website, spent $16 bux, and got an EMAIL with the actual accident report, and a DISK with the photos they took. Don't know about other states, but this older guy went to the SHP to try and get paper copies, and that's how it went down.
