Cant you just get it from fmcsa website or is there some other process?
Get Authority to Operate (MC Number) -
You both need to read the regulations. You have to have a DOT number, an EIN or a SS number then insurance a minimum of $750,00 liability, then cargo and auto liability in place before FMSC will activate your applied for MC number. There is a lot more to it than what I have explained. If you're going to broker then you need a bond. If you're just going to look for loads and book for them, you use their MC numbers and insurance. I'm not being mean but be careful because dealing with brokers is not sometime to take lightly and they are not all good honest people at best and you will be dealing with someone else's money.Last edited: Nov 27, 2017

If your dispatching, then you shouldn't need an MC#. You would book the loads for them under their MC#. Unless your going to lease them onto your MC#. Then you need to file for the MC#, BOC3, etc.
