Black tarps laid out dry in the sun above freezing pretty quickly- they’ll likely be dirty pretty bad but they’ll be dry.
Significant temp & humidity change while rolled up will get streaks of wetness in the folds, not enough to be wet but certainly enough to be damp inside.W923, CAXPT, blairandgretchen and 3 others Thank this. -
Always told the customer “Tarps are not waterproof”. “Tarps do not guarantee the product does not get exposed to moisture”.
Rubber duck kw, CAXPT, cke and 4 others Thank this. -
We have a couple customers that provide plastic for metal sheet/bar/tubing loads -
CAXPT, cke and blairandgretchen Thank this.

Only suggestion I have is to use tarp straps to hang it off the edge of a flatbed - at the truck stop after you're done, weather co-operating.
Which just sounds like doing a job twice to me. -
I never worried about it and I ran exclusively in the Northwest and some Western Canada. Stuff like particle board and MDF the mills provided plastic and required no matter if it was winter or middle of summer.
The only thing I would do was if the ground was muddy or super wet or if there was a bunch of snow I’d fold the tarps up on top of the load. It was a pain to do but it kept the inside of the tarps dry.
