Is it possible to let the air out of the bags on a standard dry van trailer to help lower the rear loading height?

Yes. There are various ways to achieve this. Some are plumbed to let the air out when the brakes are set. Some have a manually operated valve to release the air.

Yes, you need to have a dump valve on the trailer.

Do most have a dump valve standard already on the trailers from factory

You can also disconnect the rod where it connects to the arm on the valve. Then move the arm downwards to dump the air. When you're done, you connect the rod to the arm and it should return to the original height.

If your trailer has dock leveler arms don't worry about it. Just back into the dock an set your trailer brakes. The bags should release some air an the trailer should rest down on the levelers. We pull newer utility reefers an dry vans an that's all i ever do. Have never had a problem with the trailer being too high for loading and i always slide the tandems to the rear when live loading or unloading. Also the constant bounce of the forklift driving on an off will force air out. If ya notice once you're loaded or empty you normally have to build up air pressure that's been lost in the process.

    RubyEagle and Brettj3876 Thank this.
