I know this sounds wierd but having come from a "white collar" background - what is the appropriate clothing to be worn to an interview for driving.
Is it possible to be overdressed? Is a normal suit in order?

I don't think a suit would hurt you at all however I would think it isn't necessary. Actually in the transportation world a clean pair of jeans, some new work boots and a nice shirt will put you ahead of the game.
Ranger_309 Thanks this. -
This will get your foot in the door......

Work clothes for sure.
Be prepared to get dirty. A trucking job interview may include a road test, which includes a circle check. Get right in there and show them that you are prepared and willing to get right in there. -
You don't have to wear a suit but a nice shirt and khackies or new jeans and some nice boots. The company know that if this is how you represent yourself to them then this is how you will represent the company once you are on the road. I have actually heard from the higher ups at some companies that the way you dress on your first day of orientation could make the difference in which truck you are issued! Just a thought. I have literally seen a driver wear sweatpants adorned with a hat with a pot leaf on it. Needless to say this guy didn't even make it though orientation. Don't wear your Sundays finest because like the other driver said you maybe doing a road test or getting a little dirty. Having a change of clothes would be a benefit. Good luck to you!

Sad thing is that thats the look most think of when they hear TRUCK DRIVER and many think they need to look like that to be a truck driver.
Best for job interview is as others noted be CLEAN and wear clean comfortable clothes -
Hell, the way some drivers dress, you'd think they just stumled out of
a bar. Wet, worn out dirty t-shirts, busted out pants and you just gotta luv the new "slippers" type basket-ball type shoes some of them wear.
Very unflattering towards the profession in my opinion, but what do I know?
