We run a fleet of mainly older pre emissions 2007 trucks (international 4300 mainly). But they are all just about done.
All the newer trucks we have ( 2008, 2010 maxxforce and a 2013 hino 338) have all been terrible for emission problems, turbos and abs/transmission failure (hino x 2).
Does any have insight how newer medium duties are stacking up? Are they just as bad? Any better engines to go after ( Cummins isb 6.7 VS hino) Ford, FL, hino or? .

We need to do some newer lead trucks, single axle straight local delivery trucks 24/26ft boxes etc.

Or maybe we should just lease.

    Thank you for your time

If the autos are too bad then manual.

If the emissions are too bad, don't use them.

If the engines are so bad try other engines.

If this forum post is so bad, lease trucks and be happy. =) /tease.

The downfall of international reliability started with egr in 2004. Your 2008 Max Egr where worse. And they didn’t given up till well past the 2010 emission mark.

That said, all engines reliably have improved improved after 2011 as long as they used DEF. They where able to back off the amount of EGR required because the NOX conversation in the SCR was so effective.

With that said. Emissions suck, just when you think you have your fleet figures out, these systems though out something you’ve never seen.

So basically, engine reliably has improved. You will have less major over hauls. Emissions (if required in your area/state), can still break your budget. Especially in short haul/regional applications.

If you buy a new on, buy the computer to go with it. And start learning.. I’m afraid it’s the only way through the storm.....
