I am sitting at the TA in Barstow right now watching in the American flag going crazy and making the flagpole dance around a bit. On the way in here my rig did not feel very stable and I only have 3500 pounds in the box. How much wind would it take to blow my rig over? I'm supposed to deliver this morning in SoCal and I don't think the weather's going to get better. Should I stay or should I go?

They're talking major rain and wind. It's gonna get worse as the day progresses.

If the force of the wind exceeds you crosswind component of your tractor trailer the trailer will roll. To determine that you must figure out the total weight of your trailer, the sq area of the surface of the trailer and the angle and velocity of the wind. To figure that out would take longer then just waiting for the wind to die down. When in doubt, sit it out.

We run in Wind speeds below 50mph with an empty box in the north east all the time, any thing about that I'd question my sanity! It's not the constant wind speeds you have to worry about it's the gusts . Those will make your butt hole take a bite out of the seat!

There are no hard and fast rules about what wind gust speed will blow what truck over. Being empty or light, I'd start to reconsider travel if wind gusts exceeded 45 mph and generally across the side. You can be in for a long wait in the high desert of SoCal

But if you're talking about heading through Cajon summit/canyon, all sorts of things can go on in various geographic formations that can make it worse or better. A lot has to do with which way you're headed.

It's Friday. Do what you gotta do if you're needing to get unloaded and reloaded today and don't want to sit all weekend and have potential service failures.

Wasn't it 40mph winds that blew the guy off the bridge last week up there?
