Finishing a TN to Seattle run today with 30k in the box. No problems with wind coming across, worst was in SD. I've been out here a lot but never in my own truck and of course I've always been advised to run heavy.

Here's the worry, I got a light load (25k) back to eastern Montana and then an even lighter one (20k) over to PA next week.

How much is enough to keep you planted on the windier days across the plains?

At least 5K should keep you on the ground, of course your speed also figures into the equation.

You won’t have any issues unless the wind is abnormally high.

When I ran rocky sets across Wyoming i80 I wouldn’t pull one below 20k was my rule of thumb in a 48” I’ve said screw it with a little below 18-19k but never any lighter. Also if you drive slow in high winds you give the wind a chance to lift your trailer cause it’s at its highest point. When you drive faster wind pushes your tractor down. Downforce. If you look at wind tunnel videos this will show the science. Most videos caught of trucks blowing over are guys with their 4 ways on going slow. My buddy pulled two pups one had 3k the other had 2k and made it through 70 mph winds. He said keeping his speed up helped a lot.

In that area shouldn’t be crazy like Wyoming. I’ve ran 90 just to avoid 80.

Has got to be the worst advice I've ever heard here, and I've been here awhile....

Nothing is heavy enough to keep you planted. Even railroad choo choos get blown over when the wind is big enough.

If you are in a known NOAA issued high wind warning for the county you are in now or will be in a short time you stop and wait. Do not go into that area. Is usually enough winds (around 56 on up) to blow anyone over. Particularly light weights and empty.

I use CBBT standards for wind limits when trucking. If it is necessary, dispatch will have to make a new appt time.

Really? Let’s see I ran across i80 Wyoming everynight to salt lake and back to Denver for 6 years never shutting down unless the road is closed. I probably have 750k miles alone in Wyoming. I guess I’m just lucky. I get my advice from fellow drivers at my old company who been running high wind lane for 20 years with no accidents.

And that's just the first Google search page, excluding the video articles. Know what every one has in common? They all say (among other things) to slow down in high winds.
So yes, if you've been speeding up in high winds I would have to say you are lucky....

Never done it with a box trailer, but in my experience with an empty cattle trailer speed is not your friend when you’re empty in high wind.
