I'm thinking about getting a hook ladder so I can climb onto my trailer with a foldable chair to hang out when it's nice out, but I would like to know the weight rating for a trailer roof before I do that.

Not a good idea. Just thin fiberglass panels and aluminum braces don't hold much.

I would think most companies would take a dim view of their drivers being on top of the trailers. Would be a big safety issue.

I wouldn't sit up there myself but if you wanted to you should be fine unless your chair has pegs for legs instead of a bar that would sit along the ground/trailer roof and you don't weigh half a ton. Think how much snow is up there sometimes, I've never heard of a trailer roof caving in due to snow. Might be a bit warm on the feet..

How much do you weigh? All of that weight is concentrated in the feet of your folding chair. If the roof is fiberglass, they barely hold their own weight. At a minimum you would need something like a wide plywood or chipboard panel between your chair and the aluminum roof. Some other driver may see your great idea and take your ladder while you are sunbathing. What's your backup plan?

Most roofs are flimsy plus dirty as heck . Bird droppings soot dirt etc build up over time ..

Unless you own the company, you could be terminated for safety violations.

Additionally, should you choose to do it anyway, disperse your weight over a greater contact area of the trailer and more importantly, take your ladder with you. If you don't take your ladder or otherwise secure it to the trailer, another driver will walk off with it, leaving you stuck on the roof.

Better yet, pull a flatbed and you will have a sturdy deck that's low enough to get on without the need for a ladder, at least while empty or with a partial load on the deck.

Where I am, OH&S requires tie off at heights greater than 10 feet. That'd be considered a safety violation here if someone reported it. Your rules may vary.

You can most likely find a spot on a nice day with your foldable chair then the top of your trailer I would guess.
