Hi folks,
I know I've seen some threads in the past where this came up, but my searches are yielding nothing, so...
Once I finish trucking school and have my new CDL in hand, how soon do I need to hire on with someone, and what factors determine that timeline (company policies, law, etc)?
Thanks!
How much time allowed between license and first job?

preferrable that you are hired before never hurts to get a head start... There called prehires for a reason...
briarhopper and Leviathan Tube Thank this. -
There is no time limit. You can have a CDL and never drive a truck, other than the one you took the driving test. As long as you maintain a valid Medical Certificate, on file with your state DMV, you can have a CDL. No driving job required.
Now, it would not be cost effective to keep a CDL if you don't have a truck driving job.
After you have finished your school, you should get a job within 90 days or most companies won't recognize the training from the school. Being a rookie, they don't want you to forget what you have learned in school. There are jobs out there, but don't just sit waiting for that dream job. You need experience, so get a job and get that experience.pattyj, Leviathan Tube and briarhopper Thank this. -
Pretty sure they haven't created a law about it, more company policy then anything
else. I've had the family death scenario keep me from starting and it's almost been a year
since I finished. Low and behold there are still offers available with bonuses and tuition
Reimbursement and it's not just with the megas. Local jobs available too. Don't get
discouraged. -
Not discouraged at all. I haven't even started school yet! Just starting to think about how things might proceed when I finish.
Thanks guys. -
Good luck...! -
I went to graduation and picked up my certificate at 9:30 am. Went to an interview at 1 PM the same day and was hired.

You got 30 days before ppl start ignoring your apps & calls.
They think you're lazy.
The same ppl that answer phones for a living -.-

As the forum readers all know, truck driving requires 100% concentration and focus, which often requires that one has their "backyard" cleaned up and in order.
