Approx how much should a full dry van of pallets weigh? My BOL says 22,000 but I scaled at my fuel stop and I am at 85,680. Making it approx 51,000 in the box.

Do you need directionsDominick253 Thanks this. -
I am 22 months in the seat and amazingly this is my 1st pallet load. The shipper seems shocked as well so their gonna dig into the load and figure it out. Plain old wood pallets is what is on the tail.

Depends on what type of wood. Are they dried or still wet and green?
Pallet weight varies depending on type of pallet. Lightweight plastic pallets can weigh as
little as 3 to 15 pounds, while heavier models may weight up to 30 pounds. An
empty wooden pallet will generally weigh from 40 to 70 pounds depending on the
moisture content of the wood.
Hope this helps!Dominick253 and xlsdraw Thank this. -
if you scaled your load, and you know the empty weight of your truck, and you have a completely full trailer of pallets, YOU are the best person to answer that question for all of us
i too have had a complete pallet load, it said 20 or 30 k, i never weighed it because i knew it was not too heavy
so before your question, i would have answered you 20-30k
but now since you know more than me, i will remember that if it feels heavy, then i should weigh itDominick253 and xlsdraw Thank this. -

I loaded near Rochelle, Il and stopped for fuel and to scale at the J in LaSalle, Il. Fortunately no coops.

Let us know what was the reason when you can.

I almost exclusively haul refer loads, refer loads ALWAYS have accurate weight on the bills and the shippers almost ALWAYS know what the weight is, couldn't tell you why and frankly don't care. The point I'm making is that refer dc's and shippers are usually right on the nose.
Anyhow, a day ago I dropped over in downtown Detroit. After Finish up there, I get my next dispatch to 250 miles north into the peninsula. Get there, load up with "42,350 lbs." Its a dry load to get me out of this crap snow and ice.
I ask where the nearest scale is "oh, its about 150 miles south of here." I was a little dumb founded but after cheecking around I found it was true! How stupid!
Long story short, sure enough I was over gvw and wasted the better half of a day making up for this mistake running back and forth weighing and wasting my time.
Dunno why all of that didn't post, sorry about the grammatical errors.
Btw the point I'm making is these companies that ship dry freight either don't know, or care about their weights. The fourty something thousand that was in my box yesterday ended up being over 45,000
which put me in a dimension of pissed I rarely visit.Last edited: Jan 25, 2013
