I know that there are tons of different variables involved, but lets say I get a 2012 KW T700 and want to rebuild the engine to be like new. questions:
1. Roughly how much would this cost, just a realistic range
2. How many more miles would I get out of the engine? 500,000+?
3. Roughly how long would it take for the mechanic to have the work done?
Only curious. Thank you.
How much roughly to rebuild a truck to new condition?

You can still get 1.2mil out of a rebuilds if they are done right. How many miles are on the 2012? I hear they take about 1-2weeks to be done.
OOwannaBE Thanks this. -
1)If a rebuild is done CORRECTLY it will out last the original motor that was mass produced.
2)To answer your first question I would need to know what brand motor that is in the T-700, Cummins or Paccar.
3)The length of time involved in such a project has so many variables it is nearly imposable to come even close to a time estimate. But you should figure on 20-30 hrs actual wrench time on a CORRECT complete out of frame rebuild. This is where everybody jumps in and says they can do it in half the time/$, And I'm nuts.
You also must understand the difference between CORRECT and right/legal/good enough.
I do have a question for you though the T-700 is a fairly new model, why not fix it CORRECTLY to begin with and save your self a lot of expense and headache later down the road? -
I would guess you're looking at $25,000-30,000+ including DPF and DEF.

It has Paccar MX engine. I would like to fix it perfectly in the beginning but need to save up the money first.

I'm surprised that a 2012 needs an overhaul already.
Lone Ranger 13 and jbatmick Thank this. -
I just overhauled my 2003 Kenworth t600. Had well over a 1.40million on it. Job took 3 weeks. Would of taken 2 but had to send out a part to make sure it was good.
Anyway, total was 21,000 out the door. Cat platinum kit, new starter, new alternator. 7000 on the rebuild already and she runs like a kitten. Definitely a difference in fuel mileage and power. -
if he is going to drop another $20 to 30,000 into the $67,000.00 truck he was interested in ( from another thread OP started ) better off just going for a new one and get the extended warranties.
I'm surprised that a 2012 needs an overhaul already.you would be more surprised on the # that have been overhauled , few stories on this site about the failed overhauls of fairly new engines.

Thanks. It doesnt need an overhaul already, I just wondered if its a good idea to buy a used truck and make it run like its brand new instead if turning it in for another.
