It all depends on the miles and how much time spent on the dock,..

But I will tell you it is more than most anyone driving otr,....And you get to go home after work,...

I spent a week running line haul and decided that I like my city p/d run better and went back to that,....

i would say anywhere from $1100-$1400 and, in fact, i think con-way guys are getting $1800-$2000 depending on the run.

But the real question is can you work those night hours? Looks good on paper----until you try it.

It will vary a ton based on miles, dock time, and company but a general range would be $60,000 - $110,000 per year. It all varies by the LTL company, but it generally takes a few years to hit top pay rate and a few years to land a longer line-haul run that pays well. There are exceptions to that but normally runs are bid by seniority and the senior drivers take the longer runs.

It can be hard work with lousy night hours and poor winter driving conditions, but I made $82,500 in 2009 and figured to be around $86,000 or $87,000 this year but I might actually break $90,000 for 2010 - I'll be within a few hundred dollars either way. I run mid 400's per night for miles but do spend about 4-5 hours per night on the dock plus all drop/hook and fuel time. Usually around 12.5 -13.5 total hours per night making somewhere in the neighborhood of $360 per night. My best friend here has a slightly longer base run and takes all the via's while maxing his hourly time - he should be right around $105,000 - $110,000 this year driving a truck. I can honestly say if I know about 200 line-haul drivers here pretty well, 190 of them will break $80,000 and 25 of them will break $100,000 this year.

im pretty sure i will end up in linehaul sooner or later...probably sooner

we had a newer driver bid into city...hes still at the lowest pay...33 cents a mile and about $17 an hour for dock and yard time pay

he said he grosses over $1100 every week...imagine when he hits top pay....66 cents a mile and $26 an hour for dock/yard pay...that will be 2013

I know what your top pay already is and will be..lol.. I was gonna ask you where you got you annual figures for UPS Freight line-haul drivers. It has to be one of four ways you figured those yearly wages.

    1. All of your drivers work 8 hours per night on 200 mile runs.

    2. You were being very humble - very very humble.

    3. Those figures were till the end of October - you forgot November & December are months and count towards yearly wages.

    4. Your line-haul drivers only work 4 days per week with the 5'th being unpaid - really a dream of mine especially if it's Monday or Friday.

I can tell you from working all the various jobs at an LTL that line-haul has it's downs but the pay checks are not one of them..lol..

Took me 5 years to run line-haul with a bid and 5 years to hit the top pay rate. Been here for 7 years total now.

I see you're out in Cali - should mention our pay rates are slightly higher here in the Northeast than out there or down South..
