A company I've not worked for but around talked me into putting in a application for a position as a yard jockey, I've put in the application and waiting for a job interview which they will most likely hire me but I'm still confused about on the application where it asks how much salary you need?

Do many companies negotiate pay or do they just have a starting pay? the company only has 4 drivers and I didn't want to ask them about pay and I'm not even sure what a yard jockey starting pay is?

Most jockeys make from as low as 8$ to as high as 12$ an hour depending on the area you live in. Be mindful that if you accept this position for a long time and decide to go back to driving, your time for this is not counted as any type of driving experience. Just from my experience its an OK job if you have no plans to do or and wish to be home every night.

In KY you should make 16 to 20 per hour with overtime being time and a half. Personally, I think it is a good job but I wouldn't do it for less then 24 per hour.

I've heard 10-12hr is average. They put the question about salary on applications to easily filter out those that want too much, always leave it blank. In this economy there is no negotiation on pay, it pays what they say it does and they will find a body to fill the seat.

Yes, I was told to leave it blank after I dropped it off, I'm learning though and if it's 10-12, I probably couldn't afford to work for that.. I'm currently making 20$ an hr doing the same job but it's seasonal so a pay drop is acceptable but I don't think I could go below 15.

If they'll negotiate. Start at 18 and accept nothing lower than the 15 you want.

Ours make 14 to start and 15 on weekends working a 2 on 2 off 3 on 12hr shift schedule. Annual increases to top out around 19+/- a little. Got a student on the truck now they hired him for yard dog/local shuttle work for one of our dedicated customers. Making him do 4 weeks otr training first then he gets the home every night gig. For central nc that's not too bad I guess if you don't live in town.

Apply to PepsiCo and shuttle trailers

They are the highest paid drivers.

Just shuttle trailers around the yard or next town covers plant 52k a year. Paid by hour. Home every night.

Not a "real trucking job" but there's my e lead for you. Not sure how far away Winchester is from etown and too lazy to look it up. Prob your best bet in ky
