That is what my husband made his first year. On his second year, he will be about $90K.

His mentor, when he started, makes about what your family member says. Yes it is possible. It is very common for a Walmart driver to make over $100K a year. In higher paid markets (my husbands is a lower paid one), a real go getter can do $150K fairly easily.

You have to remember that the averages also count drivers that are semi retired and work 3/3, or 5/5, or 3/5 shifts (first number is days worked, second is days off). They will not make nearly as much.

Oh, outside carriers are used when there is too much freight for the private fleet to handle. They only hire the amount that they can keep busy year around. They want their drivers to be happy.

If you drove a 140,000 miles per year in order to make 150k you would have to be payed $1.07 per mile!:biggrin_25513:

I'm not a Walmart fan, but driving for them can be lucrative. There's a lot of rules, but there's a lot of compensation as well. I would totally go for it. But remember you're not applying for just any trucking job. Walmart is real picky (for the most part, some do slip through). You can make great money there. Be on your A-Game during the application and interview process, and go for it.

$150,000 seems a bit high, but many do make well over $100k, usually around $110,000 give or a take. To get that $82,500 avergae, that means some make $55,000 while others make $110,000.

It's still a OTR job with ALL the hours involved. 82 is great for OTR. On the flip side not going to hi-jack the thread,82 is on par ( total package bennies etc ) for a few year top rate LTL home every day driver.

UPS package car drivers make more ( non CDL ) and home every day :biggrin_25523:

Wal-mart doesn't pay all that great. Drivers should earn 120+ for the first year. They are underpaid and deserve more from a Hundreds of billions dollar company.

Before anyone jumps on me. Wal-mart drivers should earn more, They are the upper crust of being a company driver deserve much higher pay.
