I run Centramatic balancers and have been getting very good mileage out of steers. My partner has been seeing 175,000 or better out of his steer tires.(He runs Centramatics also)
Keep them inflated properly and keep them balanced and keep good shocks of your truck and you'll see a vast improvement in tire wear.

If you get 150,000 you are doing above the industry standard! Or I should say the "company driver" standard!

A tip is to keep that 5th wheel greased and NOT just at service time! If you own your trailer drop the thing at lease once a week and (i keep a 6" putty knife in side box) use it to spread the grease that has curled over the lip of the 5th wheel back up on the plate or dispose of it and spread new around! This helps on steering and backing.

Also don't fall for the wives tale to keep 10000 or less on your steers. All of the tire manufactures recommend more weight to hold down the "skip" and "slide" (in turns) that a light steer weight can go through!

depends on the tire brand/model. the most I've ever gotten was 150K, the current set will hit 100K next week, but the company is getting ready to switch them out, even with centramatics we still have to have them rebalanced every few months

You still have to balance them?

That's what the Centramatics do! What are you running? Chinese tires?

I run firestone 590 steer with centramatics on my w9 and get 165 out of them pretty easy. They still have life left in them. A friend gives me $100 a tire for his trl.I also replace shocks when I put on new tires and I never spin balance the tire.Kinda why I got the balancers.

No, generals, they came from the factory on the truck, they are actually a high dollar premium steer tire. the manufacturer has sent a rep out to look at the tire, they have been dismounted and remounted several times, every time they are balanced the amount weight changes only on one tire. thye now have 100K on them, we have continentals on our frieghtshakers and they have never had a problem, one set has 130K and have only been balanced once and run centramatics as well

I am running Continentals right now and I never balance them, I just run the Centramatics...That's the point of running the Centramatics.

You are misunderstanding the function of the centramatic. Wasting money on spin balance. Do one or the other, not both. A tire will never come out balanced on the spin balancer just because you run centramatics. They rebalance dynamically as they spin. When they stop spinning the “sand” in the rings settles to the bottom of the ring. The idea is that as they spin over 20 mph that sand automatically spreads out to achieve perfect counterbalance to the current balance of the tire resulting in a perfect vibration free spin better than stationary weights can do. The advantage is that as the balance in the tire changes from wear the centramatic ring will automatically compensate. Always a perfect ride.

I got a whole year out of a pair of yokos with FFE (221000 miles) They were still on the steers when we turned that thing in.

    It's amazing.
