Location location location….. if they don’t make x amount of profit it makes more sense to sell the land…
How many are willing to patronize the petro in Ontario California with this in place??

When I saw this sign a few weeks ago I thought big deal they went from $25 to $30 in store receipts, and the 50 was gals. of fuel. The $30 is just to park. $50 in receipts? No way. I will continue to go there, but now I will make sure I can fill at least 60 gals. Then you get to park and a shower.

1. When there is no other choice or option
2. When construction on the interstate has the place barely full
Otherwise, I look for a mom and pop or just park on a ramp. I've lost count of the times I've taken a mom-pop spot (paid or not) while the Pilot a mile away had trucks parked out on the road. It always amazes me when the majors are over full while a rest area down the road has spots. That flat out confuses me. In the case where a spot CAN be found, there is always someone taking 30+ minutes to fit into it, blocking everyone waiting from continuing their day. Add to this all, the spots are so dang tiny coupled with no room to properly squeeze in. Let's not forget all the 4-wheel vans, bobtails, and CARS occupying those spots instead of the ones tailor made for them.
If I didn't have to fuel at majors, I'd rarely grace them with my presence. All their rules and signs and NOT ONE OF THEM enforces them. Take a 30 in or in front of the fuel island (forcing anyone behind to do the same)? Sure! Go ahead. Who's gonna stop ya? Wanna do shopping while in line for a fuel island? Sure! What could really happen?
Why have rules if they aren't going to be enforced?
While I understand charging for spots, some of these majors are really stupid with it. Flying J in Waller, TX, is a prime example. There, the reserved spots are directly in front of the fuel islands. If someone pulls forward AND has trucks on either side, the driver must wait until at least one of them moves to even think about leaving.
In the case of Ontario, CA, those are the ONLY places.
HOWEVER, there may be light at the end of this dark tunnel! Ol' California is now pretty much regulating and legislating themselves truck-free. By 2035, anyone having to go there will likely have their pick of prime spots and a quiet, urine-free lot.Last edited: Apr 29, 2023

Man, I remember when those stops were new, and the parking was free! Of course, those of us who used to follow international-level auto racing were still mourning the loss of the racetrack: Ontario Motor Speedway - Wikipedia
Diesel Dave and jason6541 Thank this. -
I always tried to get in and out of the LA area on one shift and back to at least Barstow because of the parking situation down there.
2 times I ended up having to go to that Petro because it was during the day and wasn't sure I had enough clock to get back out of town, especially with the way traffic is around there.
It worked out but I don't think I'd want to be trying to find parking around there at night. -
Funny thing about that Petro right now..Diesel is cheaper there than anywhere across NM, AZ, NV and UT..Was a few days ago anyway on the NASTC network.
Not the first time I’ve seen it lower either.
That fine for the lost ticket has always been in place..just higher now I guess. My only issue with staying there now is the terrible cell service.gentleroger and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -

Back in the late 80s if you picked up a Lot Lizzard and housed them over night parking was free. The downside was the medical bills later. Then the baggie she dropped and DOT found............
LameMule Thanks this.
