Random question...how long will an average reefer run on a single tank of fuel?

I know there are a gazillion factors and types, but just a ballpark? I have dry vans, but help out at a food festival and we use quite a few 48' reefers for temporary on site storage and I have been tasked with finding a fueling vendor to top keep them running for the week and wanted to get an idea of how often we will need to refuel. Most will be 32' ish, but a few at 0'.

    Any insight would be helpful!

With this heat, I would plan on refueling every 48-60 hours. 20 gallons a day would be a good number to be safe. Running on cycle and 32 you might get 3-4 days. Based on a 50 gallon tank. I know it's less, but you want to be safe. You don't want to be scrambling to refuel an empty tank. Refridgerated stuff you want above freezing but below 41deg. 34-36 would be good.

Hot weather and running in a continuous mode (produce at 34 deg), I ususally figure about a gallon and hour to be safe.

Now depending on inside temp setting, outside temp, cycle (start stop or continuous) and how well insulated the trailer is the fuel usage will vary.

You will also have to factor how often people will be going in and out of the trailer... the reefer will run at higher speed to catch back up for loss of cooling each time someone goes in and out.

Id still say a gallon an hour... Ive never had any load that went thru fuel faster than that... however, Ive never had a load that required me to open and shut the doors more than 4 times in 2 days (multi-stop loads)

The hot weather plays a factor in the uses of fuel. The hotter outside the quicker the fuel will burn. When I'm at work we top are off every 6 hours. With this heat you got to be careful about the break down. This heat will take a toll the units casuse the to not work right. So keep this in mind. Make sure someone is looking at them every two hours.

Also helps to know what size tanks are on it. Have had both 30 and 50 gals. Looks like everything else has been covered in the above posts,
