WA DOL DMV
Doesn't give any info on any expirations of tests etc.
So if I were to take the written exam for the CDL, I'd need to take a driving course as well, correct?
To my knowledge, they are both separate tests. So if I were to take the written exam, how long would it be good for?
Called the DOL earlier today and asked this question, only to learn the person on the phone "Wasn't sure" and "will get back to me" later when she learns the answer... I said, "Ok that'd be great!" and she said "Bye, I'll call you later when I get the answer" I said "ok" she hung up.
I then realized, she never even asked for my number.... So I don't think I'll be getting a call-back........
I just want to know how long it's good for without a re-test, simply because I'd like to knock out as many birds over-time I can until I have to take a full driving course. (Save time in the long run)
And a bit off subject, can you get your Hazardous Endorsement prior to getting your CDL?
How long is the written test usually good for?

Then To get a CDL you have to get a permit first, So you go to the DMV and you take the "General Knowledge" "Air Brakes" and "Combination Vehicles" test, If you pass all three they will give you a CDL Permit.
Then once you finish school or are ready to test you go back to the DMV (if your not tested at your school) and You will do a Pre-Trip, then a Backing test, and then the road test and if you pass all three of those they hand you a CDL!
Permits are good for anywhere from 30 days to 2 years it depends on your state...

Your referring to the test for your CDL Permit, correct? In TN it is good for a year, you would have to ask you DMV how long it is goof for in your state. In TN you take the Hazardous test same time you take the other tests for your permit but you actually don't get the Hazerdous endorsment until after you get your actual liscense.

So first order of business is getting a DOT physical out of the way. Good for a year, correct?
Regarding how long the permit is good for in WA, well, the DMV didn't have a clue when I asked LOL. (go figure)
And then I can take the written exams for the permit itself.
And then go through a truck driving school.
Correct?
That'd be pretty nice. -
Yes you do your DOT physical first there usually $25-$100 you can get one done at almost any clinic, and as long as your in good health its good for 2 years.
Then you go to school, make sure you call companies you want to work for to see if they hire out of the school you want to go to before you go to school. Some companies wont hire students from certain Schools.

Alright. So first thing I gotta do is save the $$$ for the DOT Physical.
Grab a CDL book (easier to go through then the PDF file online)
Take the physical, study the CDL book for a while. save money for a Truck Driving School, and then take the exams for the written, enroll in school. And become a driver?
Anything I'm missing? (just clarifying)
Sweet deal! =) -
lol no I'm just young and fast!

okay,,,
step 1; DOT Physical
step 2; permit(study commercial drivers book from DMV)
BOTH GOOD for as long as WA allows
step 3; school
step 4; CDL liscense, actual test at DMV's
step 5; company driver.....Best of luck to you
