My medical card expired and I just sent in the new forms yesterday. I went to the doctor yesterday and had my exam. And then sent the forms into the DMV on their website. Pretty simple and straightforward. Then it told me that I just have to wait for the DMV to process it. Just wondering what kind of wait times people have had, when they renew their medical card?

I live in Ga. By the time it took for me to drive from the doctor to the DMV, it had been updated. Computers, don't you know.

I don’t trust the system. I walk it in every single time. I was told at least here in Commiefornia, if DMV does not have it on or before expiration date, regardless if it being processed, your CDL goes into 4 wheeler mode.

I do the same here in Arkansas. They give me a receipt showing that the system has been updated and a few days later, I get a letter confirming it.

It depends on your state. My sate often processes it in 1 day, but they can take 10 days, IIRC. It's likely your state will process your new DOT card long before you get notice they downgraded your CDL for expired DOT card. I would not worry and I worry about everything.

The last one I did in Nebraska the clinic sent everything in and I called about 3 hours later and it was in the system.

As soon as they hand me the med card, I will take it down to the DMV, and the clerk will enter it in, update the system and give verification. Wouldn’t be able to relax until I knew for sure.

Diesel Dave and kemosabi49 Thank this.

In MI just sign into the SOS website, and it's updated in 5 minutes.

This is why I tell drivers to get their medical renewed at least 3 weeks before it expires. The first problem is you might have an issue and the ME won't give you a new medical. The key is the CDLIS. I stay so confused on the law now. All the states had time to get all their systems up so a driver did not need to present a medical because the state could just get it off the CDLIS after the FMCSA puts it there. I think @brian991219 answered this already.

If your medical is valid your OK don't worry about it. As stated above, go see a DMV person and ask them if you need to give them a copy!

This is not possible everywhere. I am in Texas and you have to schedule appointments for kind of thing.

My card expired at the end of May and 2 weeks before I tried to get an appointment and the next available appointment was August (DFW area). So I emailed in my new card, and it was updated on the website in 3 days.

You can mail it in, but gotta watch it like a hawk to make sure it goes through.
