Any info on southwest linehaul with USF Reddaway? I've got a few offers for jobs w/companies that have a driving school and am looking for a company that has enough (but not backbreaking) work - I've also posted a thread in the LTL forum - and decent pay. A recruiter said there's 2500 miles per week and you're on a call board to run nights to start, but I was later told it's more like 2000 at 50-55cents/mile with no OT. Does this seem right given current circumstances? Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks!
How is YRC/USF Reddaway?

I got hired for a linehaul job at Reddaway too. I finished a week of paid orientation and they said they'd call me. They did call - on Thursday of the following week. They told me that while I was in orientation a driver with more experience had applied for the linehaul job so they gave it to him. If I wanted to stick around they would give me a P&D job.
Reddaway has some issues. While they’re the best run of the three regional LTL carriers owned by YRC Worldwide (the other 2 are Holland and New Penn) the organization as a whole is treading water financially. July 2020, the US Treasury bought 29.6% of YRC as part of a $700 million bailout. Most of the money was used to catch up with delinquent pension and employee medical contributions.
What that means to you is that you’ll participate in the, “giveback” program. Whatever your total earnings on a given check are 15% of the total is given back to the company. New equipment is rare - expect to drive more 2,000,000 mile trucks than new ones. I’ve personally sat in a traffic jam caused by a Reddaway P&D truck when its driveshaft fell out and rolled down the street while the truck was in the middle of an intersection.
The organization as a whole is unlikely to survive long term. Do you want to invest 5-10 years working for a company only to find out your pension is worthless, your seniority is gone and you need to start over?Last edited: Oct 2, 2021

Thanks for the info! I've heard similar - the pension is in a bit of trouble even though some say it's "in the green." A nice bonus, but will it be around later on? I'm not too sure about that either. I'm surprised they'd give the job to someone else even though you were really first in line and had finished orientation. Did you have a CDL when you applied? I would be going to their school and then expect to drive right away on what they said would be 2000 mile weeks. That's at least what the recruiter said, but is this a realistic view?

You'll be on the extra board to start - no regular run, just filling in for other drivers when they get sick or go on vacation mostly. Every once in a while there will be a special run for one reason or another. Hard to say how many miles you will run. It depends on how many miles are on the extra board and how many drivers are above you on the seniority food chain. Just like the rest of the industry you'll be slammed until January then have a lot of time on your hands.Trucker61016 Thanks this.
