So I'm an owner operator hauling logs and wondering how hard it is to find parts for a Peterbilt 359. I'm never far from the house and dont put alot of miles on, also I do alot of my own mechanic work so an old truck doesnt scare me too bad, however down time waiting on parts does
How hard is it to find Peterbilt 359 parts?

No one stocks parts anymore the way it seems. You have to order too much. When I had a 359 a few years ago I never had any harder time finding parts for it than other trucks.

Body parts outside of the hood, well dealers won't have much.
Most likely junk yard stuff is needed for body repairs.
Engine parts are a different story.201 Thanks this. -
Junkyard your only hope. There was a yard in SW Wisconsin, that had a bunch of them, where I got most of my stuff, but that was 20 years ago. Mechanical stuff is still on the shelves, or can be gotten overnight, but interior and body parts could be a problem.

Unless you have a really oddball engine, parts are plentiful on the drivetrain.
Only thing you’ll run into is like on our 1994 379. The air operated heater control was leaking bad. The only option for replacement is to find a good used one or retrofit the whole system to the newer electric control. We ended up finding a overpriced used control, and it seems to be holding up fine, but you never know with used air parts.
It’s the little stuff that will cause you problems finding on older trucks, but it’s usually not something that will shut you down while waiting on a part. Like on our 1995 FL Classic, the sun visor bracket broke to where it wouldn’t stay up. The factory bracket was a cheap plastic part that FL discontinued. A piece of scrap metal, a drill, and a saw, and I fabbed a replacement out of steel that will never break. -
Thanks to all you guys!!!!

Most anything you could ever need specific to the 359 you can get here. Plenty of antiques still working everyday, you just need to have a little foresight to have the parts on your shelf before something breaks.OldeSkool Thanks this. -

Almost any air or running gear part can be had. Many at Napa or 1-2 days away. Suspension - I had a suspension hanger crack. Ordered a new OEM one from a firm in Pennsylvania and had it in 3 days. 250 bucks including shipping. Lighting is all readily avail on ebay. I replaced all the oem side lighting with aftermarket that looked identical. Bought for $50 bucks for 10 fixtures, and replaced the lights with LEDs for 20 bucks more. Easy... Only hard part that I had to get was the window mechanism for the pass side. Ended up retrofitting one from a similar model to switch it to manual instead of air. Air replacement was ridiculous money. Power steering reservoir was leaking. Finally found one on amazon (new) for a bit over $100 bucks.
Sometimes you have to scratch around but have not found anything that is not avail somewhere.OldeSkool Thanks this.
