I'm looking into driving a truck for a career and I was curious how far back the companies go on the MVR. The reason I am asking is, just a hairover 10 years ago I got a pretty substantial speeding ticket. And I was curious if they go back that far. From the research I've done some go back 3 years and others go back 5 years. Leading me to believe I should be fine. Since then I've only had one speeding ticket and it was a little over 3 years ago and was a 45 in a 35. Thanks for any information you guys can give.

Most are 3 years, most states will only go 3 years unless someone ask to go back 5 years. You should be find.

they only go back 10 years if you've driven under dot regulations in the past 10 years if not it's 5 yrs per federal law

its not a matter of how far back a company can go its more a matter of how far back a state keeps a record of your mvr
i recently called a state where i had a license 11 years ago and they have no record of my driving record its been purged from thier system same with a state i had a license 20 years ago
but if you ever got a dui thats on your arrest record and a company can go back as far as they want on a criminal search
there is no statute of limitations on how far back they can search
i have learned recently that the farther back past 10 years a company wants to search the more expensive it gets in a hurry for them

Most are 3 years back for new drivers but some my go as far as 10 years all depends. Also make sure you have a stable work history too, they are picky on that also.

Nope, I haven't had any DUI's/DWI's ever. I just recently started barely drinking, I'm 30 now. Never had any reason to drink. I got my "high" from racing my car. I've only had 3 speeding tickets since I've been driving. First was (I think) a 50 in a 40, second was excessive, very excessive, and the last a little over 3 years ago was 45 in a 35. Now I've gotten pulled over a hand full of times, but have been very lucky and gotten out of quite a few tickets.

Anyway, I'm looking on going on with Central. They seem the have the least negative feedback on here and start pay higher than most others. The pay raise's don't look as good as others, but I'm looking at this as a stepping stone.

As for stable work history, I've been at my current job for 6 years. So, I think that's pretty stable.

My MVR has a violation from when I ran a stop sign when I was 16. That was 14 years ago. I saw it at my interview for my current employer. He just can't take it into "official" consideration. But off the record he knows it's there. One of those things... probably varies state to state.

They go as far back as they want to go.
    It doesn't matter. 3,5,7,10,20.
If the state has the record and a request is sent. Missouri is strange. When the law was passed in 2001 that all states report to the drivers home every stupid ticket I had all the way back to 1975 came here! Ga aparently didn't "purge" a single one and when my company did their yearly records check Missouri sent them every single ticket that came in nation wide! That was back to 1975 when I finally was turned loose by the Army! I never had one while in as an Article 15 could hurt for a ticket! They liked to take too much of that $483.00 monthly paycheck along with 2 weeks confinement to barracks! Not fun at Ft. Gordon with a nice motorcycle and Barracuda sitting in the parking lot to go play with!

To say I had a lead foot would be an understatement. That's why I can give very good information on how to treat a ticket and find a lawyer! Experience!

To say the company had a coniption fit would be another one but as I put it to them they had a record of every single one I had reported to them from my first application that they wanted till they rehired me after getting my CDL suspended with that ruling that went with the reporting law of 3 over 15 in a 5 year period! I had a hard time with Ohio and their 55 MPH on an interstate and my state let us do that 65 on a two lanes!

But, it's up to that company on how far back they go but on average most go 10 years back but that's maybe just an average rule of thumb.
