Well I was really excited I just got my Class A YESTERDAY in FL... I have been applying to companies all week.

    BUT!

I just got sideswiped by some kid on I-95 tonight who lost control of his car in the pouring rain (he was ticketed for careless operation & bald tires)

I was just driving along and I see a pair of headlights pointed the wrong way spinning in my direction then "WHAM." He took out the whole right side of my pickup truck.

I managed to keep control of my vehicle, got it off to the right side of the highway, checked the scene for injuries..none, then called the police, the kid wanted to just give me his insurance info and dip... I was like "nooooo way buddy, stay right there"

It looked like something out of a nascar race, with car parts laying all over the road & whatnot. my Silverado held up much better than his KIA (which was pretty much demolished.)

    ANYWAY... ON TO THE POINT
Will a not at fault accident affect whether I can get hired or not... my 3-year MVR is spotless.... based on the already tough insurance standards for 25 year old rookies... I just hope it doesn't mean I will now have a harder time finding a job.

Even if you were NOT at fault, trucking is not fair. They will still count that as an accident, but as a non-preventable.

Some companies care and some do not depends on insurance.. Dollar amounts etc.
The biggest factor was whether it was dot reportable ,since you were in your personal vehicle and were not at fault .
Regardless with only one in 3 years I think you will be ok ..imo

I was involved in a head-on in personal cars and the kid that hit me died on the scene. I have never had a problem getting a trucking job. They might ask what happened but thats it. Good luck in the trucking world..

Most of the time the insurance has a fixed number of moving violations and accidents they allow, usually over a three year period.

Keeping the copy of the report showing the other guy got ticked, etc. should satisfy them that it was not your fault.

It could make the difference needed to get the job when you have the 'proof' that it was not your fault.

    Thanks everyone, very useful advice!
I'll print out the copy and keep it on hand J.I.C.

Good to hear that it won't totally kill my chances, I was pretty angry thinking it might.
