My company installed a 1500 watt inverter and forbids a larger one. I wonder if I put a fridge in the truck, will I be able to do anything else or perhaps intermittently turn off the fridge while running the microwave.
How do u power a mini fridge?

The fridge doesn't draw that much running. But if you are running a microwave when the fridge starts up your inverter might complain.
86scotty and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
If you overpower the inverter it will let you know. I had a Cheap Cobra 3500 watt like a previous poster posted. Our shop didn't even the dual cable feeds hooked up to it ,just the single. .
Inverter would scream if I kicked on the coffee pot , or convection oven if the truck wasn't running ,but handled it.
It powered my ice maker ,TV ,stereo amplifier no problem without complaints with the truck switched off.
Frig freezer ran off its own 12 volt supply with low voltage cutoff..
Gotta love Western Stars for live ability. -
In my first truck, I usually unplugged my dorm fridge from the inverter if I was going to use my toaster oven or coffee pot.

And no talk of the batteries that power those inverters?
An inverter does not provide free and endless power; it relies on the batteries it is connected to.
Using that inverter at a high load with the truck shut off will drain the batteries very quickly.
Unless you are using deep cycle batteries, you are damaging the batteries every time they get too low on voltage.Rideandrepair and tarmadilo Thank this. -
My company has the factory fridge from freightliner. Not all companies will spec them from factory. Just like the inverters some companies get a factor installed system and some companies put them in themselves. Some don't put anything in. My company has the 1,800 Watt inverter plus the truck is wired with 4 regular 120v plugs just like a house would have.
You could look at these off road camping fridge they make special for 12v and 120v. They are very expensive. They can be freezers or fridge. Dometic is one company they makes them in different sizes. They are portable fridge and freezer but like $700+. You can look for trucking companies that have fridges from factory or inverters.Last edited: Mar 11, 2021

I would of thought any half decent Company would have factory fridge fitted or if not at least a good quality APU or inverter
