Im into working out..been at it for over 12 years now and i want to know.
HOW THE HELL DO OTR DRIVERS GET TO THE GYM?
Do they just Unhinge their load and drive to one and then come back for it after. I mean, I never driven a truck before but this is something I am worried about. I want to stay in shape and I go 5 days a week!

A responsible driver never leaves his load. Some companies might get rather upset. Loads are stolen everyday. There are a few truck stops out there with gyms in them. They are usually something drivers look at on their way to buy a bag of chips and a Little Debbie.
You don't have to go to a gym to stay in shape. Take up walking/jogging, calisthenics and unloading your own freight. There will be times when you are empty you can go to one nearby. The best way to stay in shape is to stay on top of it. The fatigue of working 14+ hours a day has it's way of catching up with you over time. It's a challenge to eat right and stay in shape on the road but it can be done.Dominick253 and mindes Thank this. -
Well you probably won't be hitting the gyms. I use to go to 24 hr fitness's, but I was on a dedicated run and made sure there was plenty parking. Now with the 14 hr clock. It would be hard to try to deliver loads and manage gym times. Some of the places don't want the tractor trailer in their parking lot. So if you want to spend lots of money on taxi's to take you to the gym. Then you might want to bring some barbells and exercise in your free time.

i deadlift over 400lbs and bench almost 300lbs. I need a REAL gym to go to...i doubt truck stop gyms have the equipment i need. I guess taxis or maybe even running to the gym and back are ideas???
I dont care if Im tired after 14 hours...I still gotta go.DrGearGrinder and Random user Thank this. -
I have seen guys with bandz and dumbbells working out around the cab of their trucks in the truck stops. Walking and jogging around the parking lots also.

is it possible to park the truck (with the load) in a gym parking lot nationwide? I know my local gym has space but I dont know what typical gyms across country look like parking lot wise. Only need about an hour a day.

We go to many gym's. In fact I drove by 27 of them last week.
Actually, if you are a member of a chain that allows you to work out in all of their locations it isn't too difficult. The problem is locating one. A lot of drivers carry a portable folding bike in their limited cabin space. Of course you are leaving a $140,000 business unguarded, not counting on your load.
Being in a truck is a lot like being in Prison. (And I have been in both.) You will overcome your limitations if you want to. In my cell, 158 laps was a mile. I put in 10 miles a day. Push ups, sit ups, and the such take no extra equipment. If you are wanting to limit weights, bring a set with you. Of course going over scales could cost you if you bring too much. Many those sets you can fill up with water would work best.
Of course, I like to be paid in cash. As a trucker you will make so much money that just lifting your wallet will build muscles. Not to mention having to fight off all the beautiful women.
Time to take my meds.The_Great_Corn and FLYMIKEXL Thank this. -
First, you have to find a gym. Next it has to be able to have parking for big trucks. (which most don't). The best you can hope for is some in-truck workouts. I mean, a golds gym in Tucumcari, N.M. ? You can only hope.

What are typical shifts like? You guys claim 14 hours but when do they start? I mean at what time are you "off the clock" so to speak and have freetime?
