So,I’m having a problem repositioning my tractor trailer (53”) after completing my offset . After completing the offset , I am supposed to straighten my tractor trailer in the middle lane.
I’m always either too close to the right side or left side. When trying to correct it ,I’ll over correct. I failed my test because,I over corrected and hit a cone. Imagine the semi at the bottom of the picture, coming out of the bottom lane. And moving back into the middle lane. How will I make the tractor and trailer straight? Any advice?![]()

i'd probably wait till the tandem is at that last exit barrel (or cone) then make the turn needed.

Get back as far as you can in the hole, then pull all the way up turning the wheel left or right as needed. If you see you didn’t fix it on the pull up, you can fix it while you’re backing back up

Most newbies swing in the wrong direction when trying to move the trailer over to one side or the other. Your trailer's doors have to point at the final location before you can get to the final location. Say you are parked, not exactly in the middle of your lane but, just inside the painted line on your left between the lanes. When you are pulling forward and you steer toward the right. That points your trailer doors toward the left, the opposite to where you wanted them to go. If you are too close to one side of your lane, or you need to push the trailer toward one side of your lane, go away from that side and your trailer doors will point more closely toward the location you want them to go. If you have lots of room in front of you then you can start out going the wrong way and still correct, But State tests usually don't give a lot more room than the minimum for a maneuver. I recommend you find an online simulator or game for backing a truck and just experiment so you can see what effect your steering has on the rear of the trailer. In a lot of ways truck driving is about just putting the rear of the trailer where you want.

To correct my tandems when they are either too far to the left or right, I use a maneuver I call the wiggle worm.
So, say you need to move your trailer and tandems to the right (toward the passenger's side). Start by moving forward and steering to the right. As you pull up,,your trailer tandems will start to move to the center, where you want them. But, then, your trailer will be pointed in the wrong direction. So, now you steer left and pull forward until your trailer is basically straight in the slot. But, now your tractor is pointed in the wrong direction, so you steer left again until your tractor is straight. So, as you pull forward you steer left, then right, then left again. First getting your tandems centered, then getting your trailer straight and finally getting your tractor straight. As I said, I call it the wiggle worm. Hope that helps.gentleroger Thanks this.
