I have been driving for this guy for about a year or so, and he asked me if I would be interested in buying the ten wheeler I am driving, and going out on my own.
I know the guy well, and he is a really good friend of my family. He has been around a long time and has made his money, and he is just giving me the option of trying to start up something for myself. I am good at what I do, the only problem is I have no idea on how to go about this.
Someone said just go to city hall, and fill out paper with a name and thats it.
    Does anyone have any advice?
    Thanks

Requirements may be different from State to State. I did nothing at my county courthouse. I filed my own LLC paperwork with the State. That however is not a license, it's a form of business like Corporations, Sole Proprietorships, etc. I don't know what you pull, haul and so forth. If you do need a business license, than yeah, maybe a call to the county courthouse is in order. If you need your own Authority, which I would assume you would, that's a whole different ball of wax.
Talk to your employer guy and see how he's set up and how he set it up.
    Good luck!
