    I'm not a driver yet, but I know a little bit about a little bit.

    I may be wrong here, but if I'm not mistaken all you need to haul fuel with is your HazMat certification. Again, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

    jvy Thanks this.

    VALENZ34;
    Get at least 2 years of experience and keep your record spotless. Make sure your get your tanker and hazmat and doubles doesn't hurt. Then apply with Pacific Tank Lines, Cox Petroleum, KAG and others. Many will train you on tanker operations, many companies like drivers with no experience due to the fact you won't have any bad habits.
    Good luck!!!

    Some companies may take you after 1 yr experience. It's going to depend on the company. If it was me though, I'd go and apply regardless. Because there's a possibility that they would take you with no experience, despite the inputs here.
    But be aware that hauling fuel is a great business but very tricky. One small mistake can escalate into a big disaster so don't assume it's going to be easy at first. I hauled fuel for 6 yrs and it bit me in the hacienda a few times in the beginning before I got it handled.
    Also you only need tanker and hazmat endorsements. I doubt companies will want you to get a TWIC unless you morph into chemicals.
    If you know where the various racks are in your area, then make a note of the trucks going in and apply at these companies.
    As for KAG, they will want one yr experience.

    You are pretty much required a twic card. Not all petroleum terminals are pipelined in so if it get product from a barge in any sort of way you will need a twic to be on property without escort, an receive loading privileges.

    Example: one rack I load out of pump product from a barge across the street an down road about a mile or so. Property doesn't even touch river or barge, but still required twic to load there cause of the pipelines being part of the marine/coast guard laws an protection.

    Oh well, amazing how times change. I haul chemicals. I'm hardly asked for my TWIC. But like I say, YMMV.
    however I predicted this would happen a year ago. I just forgot my own words. LOL.

    Also apparently, we got word about this a year ago, that the current TWIC card doesn't meet the necessary "guidelines" whatever that means so I guess we will have a revamped card in the future. You just wonder where on earth these elected/selected officials come up with these lame brain ideas. As if this will really stop any kind of terrorist plot in the future.

    Just concentrate on getting some good experience....when hauling fuel if things go wrong, they go wrong in a hurry, and there is no easy way out of a jam....after a couple of years driving start to send in apps to the various tank lines. Most of all...BE PATIENT.
