Yesterday I just started working as an experienced solo driver for a new trucking company. I have just been issued a 2020 Freightliner Cascadia with an automatic transmission. This is the first time I've ever drove a truck with an automatic transmission. I don't see any engine brake button on this truck. I don't know how to turn on the engine brake. I don't want to expose my ignorance to anyone at my company by asking how to activate the engine brake on this truck.

How do you activate the engine brake on a 2020 Freightliner Cascadia with an automatic transmission?

LMFAO. I feel for you. Just call them and ask "what is this POS! I can't even find the jake" They will understand.

I already figured out the answer to the OP by watching youtube videos. The jake brake is activated by the gearshifter lever.

Too much for me. I wouldn't know if I was cleaning my windshield or turning the Jake on. When they make trucks for Prius drivers wearing sweatpants, don't be afraid to ask. It's perfectly understandable.

The Jake brake is on the right side same handle you put it in drive with. Get ready for high RPMs when you turn it on. Stage 1and 2 will always keep engine RPMs between like 1,200-1,750 that important to now about the system. It will always a keep slowing down your truck and it always keep dropping gears to keep the RPMs between 1,200-1,750.

Then stage 3 will give you maximum engine and transmission braking power by keeping RPMs between 1,750-2,200.
When the RPMs reach 1,750 you have to choose to do nothing and will will drop a gear and keep slowing truck down. You can also switch to stage 2 let the RPMs go back up and the truck go faster to say 2,200 RPMs. Then switch back to stage 3. Doing this will keep the truck in the same gear and same speed downhill.

You can also use Descent Mode and the computers and transmission will do the same thing automatically

2200 rpm ?! ...i was sure its too much rpm ...never revved my cat over 1800 ..even 1800 pretty rare ... mostly no more than 1700
    Maybe im wrong

Yes if u switch to high mode on jake on dt12 transmission .. The computer downshifts 2 gears and revs to 2200 rpm and applys jake.. It is incredibly eye opening when u first drive it.. OP the jake break is on the right lever where u can shift gears in manual mode or set to driver or reverse. Pull down to activate jakes

To use Descent Mode on the newer truck the cruise control is always on. I had 2017 truck you have turn cruise control on first.

First you turn on stage 1 engine brake. Then you push regular brake pedal and slow truck down to the speed you want. You can go as slow as 30mph. Then here the trick you have to remember. Take you foot off the brake pedal and then set the cruise control speed.

Doing this will override the normal cruise control setting and the engine brakes will come on immediately. Then just let the transmission and computers do the work. It will downshift gears if needed for more engine brake power. It will switch to stage 1,2, or 3 if needed. The engine and transmission will do everything it can to hold the speed you set if for. The computers will bring engine to 2,200rpm if needed. Just make sure if it can't hold the truck speed you set you apply the brake it you hit 2,300 RPM.

If anyone wants to see really what it can do. When you getting off highway just switch stage 3 on and let it slow your truck down. It will keep dropping gears and keep giving you MAXIMUM engine brake in every gear. If you want more braking power just apply the brakes at the same time. You can do the same thing if approaching a toll booth. You can see how it's designed work together with the engine and transmission as one.
