    Hey
I went to look at a Reefer trailer today ,
I found a few of these trailers, 2002 Utility insulated Reefer unit with a SBIIISR Unit. Unit has 2k hours, engine and compressor have been rebuilt, new starter, hose lines, belts and the engine compartment looks pretty clean. Floors are straight, no patches or holes. I asked the salesmen how cold would it go and he said the lowest it would go is 0 degrees F on sentry cycle. Is this a good temp for a Reefer,? please if your going to bash about how im not smart enough to know or something useless to this post. All others chime in ON HOW COLD THIS UNIT should go on a 53ft unit

It should go colder than 0 eventually. And an 2002 with only 2000 hours? Must be since it was rebuilt?

2002 I'm thinking since it was rebuild, It all depends on what you are going to be hauling, I would say that temp is not going to be good for Ice Cream or some other stuff that needs to stay really cold. Take care. I hope someone helps you!. Thanks.

If you are in SC this ttime of year, and it pulls an empty trailer to zero, that is about all you will get out of a unit.Length of time to bring down to zero is important. Remember, a unit is designed to maintain the temperature of the product loaded. Produce excepted.
2000 hrs. is not much time on a unit that age. Must be since re-build. Find previous companies name. What did they haul ?
Weigh it. Utilitys are usually fairly light. Brakes ? Roof patches ?
I worry more about floor damamge on a reefer.

Also check fifth wheel plate and pin.. Reefers seem to have more trouble with plate caving in.

Refrigerated or freezer ? a refrigeration system is designed to hold a box temp at around 34-38.... if you want it to keep things frozen that is typical a different unit all together...

a refrigeration system does not have a defrost cycle and if held at temps below 32 will cause it to freeze then it sure wont work.. below a box temp of 32 you need a unit that has a defrost cycle and typical it uses a different type of Freon to achieve those lower temp ..

Refrigeartion is med temp like your a/c .. a freezer is a low temp unit and has more accessories to achieve and maintain temps below 32

I'm a HVACR Tech .. and just a driver in waiting .. carry on ...

Refridgeration, and the king pin plate is flat, its not sinking into the floor, i saw one with a bubble around that area. Brakes are about 80% and slider is good. If its a good trailer i know where i can get a spread set of tandems i could put under it.

well IMHO if it will take the box down to zero you should be fine as long as product is going in soon or it will freeze up ..

I know nothing about temperature but note, i read some threads where members said that some shippers wont load refers over 10 years old - i dont know how accurate that is or what the percentage of places have this as a disqualification just that it was posted.
I also assume you are looking to buy a refer and are or want to be an O/O which may affect you.
