    Hello TR, I was told that i didnt have to go to truck driving school to get my license, is this correct? To be exact, I was told these steps...

    1. Take my CDL exam and get my permit and endorsements.
    2. Have a owner op teach/take my to the DMV so I can use his truck to pass my test.
    3. Search for available entry level CDL jobs after that.

    Or I was told I can go to a truck driving school and rent their semi to only take the test for my license (no schooling?) I live in Fayetteville, North Carolina. And I heard of Roadmaster in Dunn.

    Im a young 22 year old male looking to take off in the trucking game without the use of going to a school. I attended CR England a year ago and left, looking for another way in. PLEASE HELP OG TRUCK HEADS.

    With Elogs and insurance rates, you probably won't find an owner-operator willing to risk his livelihood to train you.
    Same issues with trucking companies; they won't hire you without that school certificate.
    Attend a cdl school that's 160 hrs. or try food service which does have an OJT program in some cases.
    For the on-the-job training program, apply for 'Driver Helper' or 'Driver Trainee' with Sygma Network and McLane Food Service. Both companies have these programs available and sometimes it doesn't show on the websites, but they do exist. Once you're fully trained and have acquired the cdl-A, probably make about $70K, then move up from there.

    Stevens Transport recruits for their school in your area. 22 yrs. old is minimum age requirement. The pay isn't the best but the training is excellent. This is a coast to coast reefer outfit.

    Here's some more options for trucking company schools:
    East-West Inc. - Swannanoa,NC - www.goeastwestinc.com
    Carolina Logistic - Candler,NC - www.carolinalogistics.net
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Here at East-West Inc, we realize how difficult and expensive it can be to obtain your CDL. Even after obtaining your CDL, trying to find a company who will hire you with no experience, proves to be even more difficult. That is why we developed our own training program.
    Not only do we take the time to give you all the skills necessary for driving a truck, but we also compensate during the entire training process. There are no tuition costs involved. We simply ask that you sign on with our company for a year, since you are being compensated during the entire training process.
    There is a CDL software program on the web you can buy for about $30, it has all possible questions and answers get it and practice for your written tests. Once you are confident you can pass the written tests go to your local DMV and take the written tests. After you've passed all your written tests and got a learning permit find a local driving school and start your hand-on training. Most driving schools have minimum packages where they just rent you a truck for your road test or one step above teaching you hands-on pre-trip, a few hours actual truck driving, backing... and then take you to do your road test. Once you've passed your road test you are officially CDL holder, find someone with experience to team drive with get some experience on your resume. Look on your local Craiglist for a driving school.
    You don't need a $30 program to see all possible questions & answers for all endorsements. The website TruckersCountry.com has them for free.
    The old way was to go get your permit then go talk to some small trucking companies and impress them enough to get them to let you ride and train with one of their drivers; I trained a bunch of guys in the 80's for the company I drove for back then.
    I get asked all the time to do this now but I only run one truck, I am not going to sacrifice my drive train to teach a guy who will be driving for someone else.
    I will say that going this route will much better prepare you for the industry, everything you learn will be relevant.
    You're not going to find an OO foolish enough to take such a risk with a young stranger. Either go to a school or sign up with a mega that will train you.
    OOIDA is big on lobbying for more training for new CDL drivers and then wants the mega companies to provide it..
