Chief. If you're going to call someone else out and call them a Kool aid drinker. You sure best also be willing to take someone calling you out, too.

I personally have no problem with someone pointing out flaws in my logic when they occur.

I don’t think I replied to you either. But it seems you are using two different screen names.

In either case you can do what ever you want. But don’t come onto a public forum and expect not to be called out on your BS.

How so? Does the camera feed the data directly to the insurance company and they keep a tally? "Safety score" sounds like an FMCSA thing to me. Does the camera feed the data directly to the government?

Like I told our safety guy, nothing's more important than following distance when you're operating any vehicle. But have you ever done a pass on a 2-lane highway while driving a vehicle with a governed engine before?

What if California suddenly decided that in the name of safety, all trucks are prohibited from using all lanes except the right lane on all highways. You'd be fine with that and accuse anyone of calling it out childish?

We're in agreement on this point. I was just thinking about it the other day: when you don't own the truck, regardless of how evolved, responsible, etc. a person you are, you're inevitably going to view that truck differently than if you'd paid for it yourself. It's human nature.

I do my best to take good care of the truck I'm assigned to. It's a gorgeous 2022 Cascadia I got into brand new.

My driving record is squeaky clean and I want to keep it that way, so suddenly catching internal flak from our safety guy (not major...he's not writing people up, just "chatting" with them) has me a little irritated is all.

I mainly wish I could access the videos. I'm willing to adjust my driving habits just to please the camera if that's where the industry's headed. I'm pretty close to retirement anyway, so there isn't all that much at stake in my case.

It can only be used against you if you don’t delete the evidence :)

That’s what’s nice about controlling the content yourself..

Because all of the safety violations your safety department is talking to you about are required to be stored. So when the gubberment does an audit. They get to see the same stuff. Which in turn impacts the company's safety score. It's why they bring you in to talk about it. They have to show they're actively working on correcting the issues.

If you asked your safety department. They'd be giving you the same answer.

I have Samsara on my phone.

You can’t watch videos unless you have granted access.

    1. If you get pulled over for a rolling stop, it will be on your record as well as the company’s. Insurance goes up. You might even get a L1 inspection on the side of the road. Depends on the LEO and where your at. Once again possible violations just because he might be in a bad mood.

    2. he’s not writing you up but he is documenting it.

    3. I don’t drive governed trucks. Ask him to look at 5 mins prior to the “following the vehicle in front to close” issue and explain to him your trying to over take it. Also even if you are trying to overtake another vehicle with a governed truck it is still dangerous as at that moment things can go wrong. And a I was getting close to over take it won’t hold up in court. It’s not NASCAR where you have to slingshot out.

    4. Things work until they break. Having a spotless record up until now doesn’t mean you won’t be involved in a crash. Hope you don’t but that’s not a defense either. As for cameras the industry has adopted it about 5 years ago and now adopting driver facing cameras. It’s not new.

Just adjust your driving habits and relax on the last years of driving. That’s few minutes you save in the end doesn’t mean jack to anyone.

mathematrucker, try cloud.samsara.com/driver and log in the same way you log into your ELD. I'm not sure if you have access to videos there, but you can see your safety score and how it's calculated. The company can change how different safety factors affect your score. Collision risk, speeding, and harsh driving are big ones for us. I got in that way because our system is all Samsara. I'm not sure about seeing videos because I dont drive a lot, and I don't have any logged safety events. Idk how it will work for you with a samsara cam and peoplenet eld.

As for your rolling stops, we started using Samsara almost a year ago, and only one of our drivers has been able to trigger the notifications for rolling through a stop sign. He was doing it daily going into the same customer, and iirc, he was going by the stop sign at about 15 mph. I'm sure some of our drivers are rolling into stop signs at low speed, sliding into second gear and pulling away, but I don't get notified for those.

Safety guy here (not yours) - You can not get access to the recordings. Unless the safety guy adds you to the dashboard access, you can not see anything on the dashboard. Dont think that the safety guy is monitoring you 24/7, the camera is set up in a way that detects you following too closely or running stop signs and sends an alert to the safety guy. I highly doubt anyone ever looks at these recordings unless there is an issue.
