The company truck I drive has a Peoplenet ELD and Samsara CM31 outward-facing camera. Is there any way for me to even view the videos that camera records (besides going into our safety guy's office and looking at them on his computer), let alone download them to an external storage disk? Asking our safety guy to put them on a thumb drive for me isn't an option.

Samsara's website says "Paired with the VG-series vehicle gateway, the CM31 automatically uploads video clips and still images to the Samsara Cloud, providing zero-touch, centralized visibility into footage from an entire fleet. [snip] Operators can instantly access recent and historical captures from any web browser."

It appears all I would need is our company's username and password to log into its Samsara account, but they're obviously not going to let me do that, so I guess I'm out of luck.

The other day I got called in to "chat" with the safety guy about all the horrible rolls through stop signs and following too close that I do on a daily basis. I have an opinion about that but it isn't the purpose of this post to express it here so I'll keep it to myself for now. However, as I've already let our safety guy know, I have a pretty big problem with my not having access to these videos.

Reason for edit: "tailgating" was too strong and inaccurate

    Simple.
Go to a company that doesn’t have them.

    complicated answer.
Ask safety guy who is driving this truck, him or you, then get another job.

The video is there to hang you and protect the company, not the otherway around. There is little/no chance you will get access.

    Here’s a fix for it.

don’t roll through stop signs, and don’t follow to close.

    Problem solved.

Why any driver would even put a company and themselves at risk like that astounds me. Reason why drivers are considered disposable in this industry.

No idea. That's why I have my own dashcam. Some idiot 4 wheeler does something stupid. I can show the police myself when they try to say it was my fault! Now then, I suppose it could be used against me also if I did something stupid. But, there's alot less of a chance for that to happen. So, I figure the odds will ever be in my favor!

    "At risk?" "Astounds" you? Really?

If having access to the video necessarily comes with the ability to delete it then that would be a stopper for sure, and yes, it probably does.

This is the answer that "nailed it" (not that silly one about putting companies "at risk" by recklessly exceeding 0 mph at a stop sign).

Our previous safety guy was pretty cool. He never "chatted" with us about anything minor/meaningless the camera recorded. But he left at the end of December and the new guy is different. I like the job so it's hard to leave, but it's time to at least start looking again.
