Houff Transfer from Weyers Cave, VA...can't say they are my favorite, but still a good company. Good benefits, good pay, and they treat you well. They pull dryvan in the mid east coast region from NJ to NC. They are a short haul company with about a 100 trucks. They run paper logs, and because they are short haul (100-300mi) you sit a lot at customers. Doesn't sound like you can make money doing that, but if you're OK with changing logs daily, and not getting a lot of sleep during the week you can make real good money. And they will love you for it! And turn a blind eye to you running illegal. They don't encourage you to run illegal, but definitely won't stop you. Didn't stop at one scale in the 3 months I worked for them. Lol

It didn't work out for me because I just didn't like dryvan, got bored, and self sabotaged. Plus I like my rest and being legal.

They could just have daily drivers make the pickups and take to terminal, then otr run terminal to terminal drop & hook only. They been in business for so long, they'll find a way.

Several years ago, right after retiring from a major LTL company, I worked part-time for Houff and basically the only drawback was the way certain people in management would talk down to you. The equipment was kept up, sitting around was never a problem, I kept moving. If I wanted a job where I could be assured of getting home and driving equipment that is kept up, making pretty good money and really not hurting myself, I would seriously consider Houff. Just a word of caution, have a "tough skin".

And Grouch that's what I've always heard too. I know those guys make money but you gonna have to color those logs to do it and have to deal with folks in Weyers Cave who aren't the friendliest. They got freight for days

They got more freight than they can handle. They are rough around the edges, but I think in any trucking job you gotta have thick skin.

After my retirement I guess I have worked for about everybody in the Valley, I was a little hard to "please"(still am), but looking back over the years and the companies that I drove for, I have to say that Houff is right up there near the top.
