Hey guys I have a question about truck setup. I am going to be getting a Ram and know that people are saying to stay away from the Cab and Chassis because they are detuned. What is the preference on driving a crew cab vs mega? I have found a lot of 4.10's in Aisin but not in 3.73. I am thinking in Colorado the 4.10's wouldn't be too horrible with I-70.
Also, what is the final answer on flatbed vs truck bed? I can see pro's and con's of both. I have been looking everywhere to see opinions but haven't found a lot. The whole "power unit" for length is confusing as well.
Thanks for the help!

I just bought a 2017 crew cab, Aisin, with the 3.73's. I replaced my 2015 with the exact same setup. It all comes down to personal preference. For what I do and the routes I take I wanted the better mpg that comes with 3.73. I like to set my cruise right at the speed limit and still be under 2000 rpm.
My opinion is the crew cab is the long box is the best option. You need to know what your hauling to make the best decision.
There are times I wish I had a flatbed for small loads, one pallet etc but I also really like space the 8' box gives you and your not constantly having to worry about stuff sliding off your flatbed. -
Thanks! I had to go back and look to see if you were the same guy from the 4500 section. After I saw that I started looking. 3.73 does seem like a great option for otr. I was worried about sitting in traffic coming out of Denver with a load. I know the 68RFE are prone to driveline shudder but I'm guessing the 3.73 Aisin will eliminate that.
The flatbed part makes sense. Initially I thought a mega cab with a flatbed might be the best of both worlds. Guess I will just have to learn to off duty in crew. -
I run my business a little different than most hot shotters. The majority of my runs day trips. I have a few local customers who keep me busy. I have slept in the back of my truck and it's not a lot of fun. If they weather is good meaning not 100 degrees or freezing cold I don't mind it for one night. I do make runs for one of my customers that is 550 miles one way. When I do that I charge accordingly and just get stay in a hotel.
Nothing against the guys who sleep in the back of a pickup on a nightly basis but it's just not for me. In my opinion if you feel you can't afford a $100 hotel room than your not charging enough.samcperez Thanks this. -
That's my goal as well. I will do what is necessary during start up but will tailor it once things are moving. I'm in a lucky situation with the wife doing well and willing to take a chance. Still hung up on cars vs flatbed trailer.
