I have a 2017 Ford F-350 dually. I've been in the retail car business for 15 years, most of them I've hauled our own cars being a 2 car wedge, 3 car wedge, and a 4 car with hydraulic lift. I'm making a move as far as my career path goes and I'm wanting to put my truck to work. I'm very familiar with hauling cars but have talked to several drivers that said they prefer freight. Unfortunately, at the present time, I'm not financially able to purchase a flatbed and a car hauler trailer. I'd like some opinions on which is the best paying. I'm familiar with car trailers, but dumb as a brick on what type trailer for freight and is the air ride trailer worth the price difference. Any help is VERY appreciated...

Go bigger!! Some many people start out with a set up and they always end up going bigger. With your connections in the auto industry it should be easer than starting from scratch. Most independent guys clam a six car trailer pulled with a tractor. Go a head get one with a nice sleeper. If you are going to use the F350 do hotshot work. Expedited work where you can maintain that truck and keep it a long time. Pulling cars is hard on them trucks.

Thanks man. I really rather hot shot but managing my trailer space and all the regulations on tie downs, chains, tarping, etc. would definitely take some learning, but I'm leaning that way since I have the truck and maybe later, be able to buy a tractor and car hauler and hire someone to do the freight. thanks again...

Cars are always available, they may not pay that much but they are always there to pay the bills so to speak. If you want to use the dually get a wedge 3-4 car trailer one can be had for around 7-10,000. If you have some extra money you can buy a 40' gooseneck flatbed to do freight, between the 2 trailers you will always have work. The problem with freight is you must have connections or a broker to get you loads, for cars you just go on Central Dispatch.

BTW, the air ride gooseneck is not worth the price IMO they ride very nice but too many extra things to go wrong: air bags, level sensor, extra battery, air ride compressor.... A gooseneck flatbed with Hutch suspension is good enough IMO, on the other hand I have a 2015 Maxey gooseneck 40' flatbed with air ride for sale if anyone interested :)
