The only negative, if you can call it that, was that there was no on/off switch. I might have to get one. Can't go wrong for 40 bucks, ya know?

That was the other thing I noticed. I wonder if it's for a safe design so you don't accidentally turn it on.

Not hot enough to boil? Wanna bet? Get to 14000 feet and see how low that water boils below sea level 221 degrees...

True that. Boiling water at 17,000 feet results in luke warm soup.

We learned that lesson the hard way. Turns out the higher you go, the less temp it needs to boil. If you took a human high enough, the liquids will boil out of us, hence the space suits.

We used a oven with a lighter from Petro. A little lunch box type thing, two of them one for taters, onions gravy.. etc and the other for a roast or steak chopped or whatever. The cooler in the side of the sleeper was very valuable, you can achieve temperatures pretty low sometimes with those.

Cooking was a different matter, the pans would burn out and Petro would replace them several times a year no questions asked. They were very good to us, we went through pans.

You can buy a case or two of Military Surplus MRE's and eat well enough with the heaters in them to gain 3000 or more calories per meal per day. Useful to help others and build good will should a drift snow get you and 20 people stuck on Donner for a night ...

Did you know you can burn snow? I've done it while snow camping when I was plumb out of any water to help to start to melt a pot of snow. You have to pay attention and stir the snow or it will burn on the bottom of the pot.
